Genesis 2. 16-25

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the
garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not
eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely
die.

God had made so many pleasant and good things for Adam to enjoy, however He put His stamp of ownership and Lordship on it by setting boundaries for Adam.

18 And the LORD God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that
was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

As we can see from these verses, God Himself instituted marriage. He said it is not good the man to be alone. He then said I will make him a mate. That’s where the trouble lies for all of us. We no longer wait for God
to do for us what He said He would do.  We think God is too slow, or He really does not want us to have a good time or a good things. So we do it ourselves and visit all the DIY shops around, UNFORTUNATELY!

I will make him an help meet for him:

  • One to help him in all the affairs of life, not only for the propagation of his species, but to
provide things useful and comfortable for him
  •  To dress his food, and take care of the affairs of the family
  • One “like himself”, in nature, temper, and disposition, in form and shape
  •  One “as before him”, that would be pleasing to his sight, and with whom he might
delightfully converse, and be in all respects agreeable to him, and
entirely answerable to his case and circumstances, his wants and
    wishes.

I will make him a help meet for him”. God says He will make for us a help that suits us! We just need to allow Him.

V21. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept…

Adam slept soundly, trusting the affair of getting a wife to God. Unfortunately for many of our young people nowadays are very alert and awake, and sniff at anyone that passes by, using their senses to judge, and no longer relying on God to do it for them.

V22. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he woman…

God did a great and perfect job for Adam. He will do the same for you if you will ALLOW HIM!

….and brought her unto the man.

Without being super-spiritual, God will bring your (Husband or Wife) to you, as He brought Eve to Adam. Remember that it was Abraham who went to look for a wife for his Son. If Abraham could do that, will God do
less for us? God brought Eve to Adam. He will bring your partner to you, and you will know that this is the right person. Just like Adam knew that Eve was the right person for him.

V23. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.

V24. Therefore shall a man leave his father, and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife…

This doesn’t mean that a man upon his marriage should neglect his parents or dishonour them, but he should depart from his father’s house. He should dwell no more with his father, or bed and board in his house; but having taken a wife to himself, should provide an habitation for him and her to dwell together.

Many marriages have been wrecked by the third party. Make sure you wreck-proof your marriage by being one with your Husband/wife. Every other person is secondary.

…and they shall be one flesh

This means that the man and women are no longer two individuals but have now become one (see Matt 19:5). The union between them is so close, as if they were but one person, one soul, one body. This is to be observed against polygamy, unlawful divorces, uncleanness, fornication and adultery.  Only one man and one woman should be joined in lawful wedlock.

V25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Let there be no secrets between the husband and the wife. Transparency in all things. Don’t let the Devil bring any shadow of doubt by allowing anything between you.
